Acoustic analysis with SoundChecker

Acoustic Analysis with SoundChecker™

Car doors, seats, camshafts, ball, bearings, cylinder head gaskets, tailgates, ABS motors – the list of the single components that are installed in vehicles and cause a certain noise level is long. A large number of these are rotary or mechanic functional units. Car manufacturers (OEM) specify to their suppliers how sound effects must be developed and evaluated due to specific requirements.  Furthermore, acoustic analyses can detect decisive faults.

The noise and impact sound analysis for mechanic functional test describes a method where assemblies are checked for their vibration behaviour by means of  detecting airborne and impact sounds. Thereby, a sound image is recorded and  the frequency spectrum analysed.

The frequency spectrum does not provide a statement about annoying noises. That requires certain classifiers, also known as sound characteristics, e.g. roaring, humming, buzzing, grinding, pounding, brush sounds, groove frequency, creaking or screeching.

SoundChecker consists of a measurement data collecting unit, structure-borne sound sensors or open air microphones and an installation software, which can be run on each PC with USB interface. GOEPEL electronic additionally offers  completely set-up PC systems with preconfigured impact sound measurement equipment.

The USB data acquisition module provides excellent transmission behaviour for sound signal detection from 5 Hz to 22 kHz, because a dynamic range of up to 11 db at a sample rate of 51.2 kSa/s is covered. Due to the high 24 Bit resolution the  module is a perfectly suitable tool to check for acoustic and mechanic vibrations.

  • SoundChecker™ Software

The operating software contains complex analysis processes for simple  parameterisation of specific impact and airborne sound evaluations. SoundChecker can be synchronised and controlled via a common communication interface. Users may also install the software in parallel to their own applications to execute impact sound analyses.
